Call-out for female mechanics

Call-out for female mechanics

A group of Leamington Brownies is looking for a female mechanic to go to one of their sessions to teach some basic bicycle-maintenance skills. They have reached out to Cycleways to see if we can help. Nicola Lomas, from the Dale Street Brownies, says:

“Dale Street Leamington Brownies would like to earn their Mechanics Badge which requires them to use some simple tools and equipment to complete an ‘MOT’ on a bike or scooter. Following that, they need to have a go at 2 simple fixes such as lubricating a chain, adjusting a seat, pumping tyres, fixing a puncture, or adjusting brakes. Girlguiding aims for girls to see that women can do anything, so the request is for any female members of Cycleways who might be able to be role models for these 25 girls aged 7 -10 by demonstrating these tasks.

“The meetings are 6.15-7.15 on term time Tuesdays in the centre of Leamington (CV32 5HL), with indoor and car park space available. The girls will be asked to bring along their own bikes or scooters to work on. A possible date is 9th June, or 23 June or, if not, into the autumn term. The girls are fun and eager to learn, and visitors tend to always go home with smiles on their faces.”
