Warwickshire County Council is asking for feedback on their budget priorities for 2027/8. Follow this link to the online survey. The consultation closes on 1st November.
In 2026/7 the County Council is planning to spend £106m on Transport and the Economy, and £25.5m on Highways. Cycleways would like to see more of this spent on Active Travel, and particularly on high-quality cycle routes that meet the LTN 1/20 standard.
The Institute for Public Policy Research says: “Spend on active travel is among the most secure investments that government can make. For every £1 spent, active travel infrastructure has an average return on investment of £5.62, and these returns increase over time. In comparison, the average road building returns are £2.50 for every £1 spent, while some projects realise no benefits at all.” (Stride and Ride, 2024).
