Low Traffic Neighbourhoods save lives!

Research by Westminster University, published in July 2025, shows that London Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LLTNs) led a reduction in road injuries and deaths of more than 30%. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods have, in places, been controversial, so it is good to see evidence that they save lives and reduce injuries. Encouragingly, there was no increase in accidents in areas around the LLTNs.

The research (Furlong J, Fevyer D, Armstrong B, et al Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in London reduce road traffic injuries: a controlled before-and-after analysis (2012–2024) Injury Prevention Published Online First: 07 July 2025. doi: 10.1136/ip-2024-045571) is cited in the BMJ.
