Chancellor Rachel Reeves presented the Government’s Spending Review on 11th June 2025. There was some good news for cyclists and pedestrians – £616m was granted to Active Travel England over the period 2026-2020.
While this is to be welcomed, it equates to £154m/year, still lower than the funding allocated to Active Travel England over the years 2021-2023. And much lower than the £2bn/year that the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) estimates it would cost to achieve the current Active Travel Objectives (IPPR Stride and Ride report).
