Aviemore sees 53% growth in cycling!

Cycling in Aviemore in the first 3 months of 2025 was up 53% compared to the same period in 2024. January to March might not seem like prime time to be cycling in Scotland, but the increase is mainly at morning and evening peak times, suggesting the increase is in “utility” cycling.

It is good to see that the increase in Aviemore, and elsewhere in Scotland, is happening where local authorities are investing in protected cycle lanes and improved networks of cycling routes. 20mph speed limits are also encouraging cycling; slowing the traffic down makes the roads less threatening to vulnerable road users.

The data on increases in cycling have been collected by a network of 800 automatic cycle counters, and have been analysed by Cycling Scotland.
