Summary of Minutes of Cycleways’ meeting at the Fat Pug 14th June 2017

Warwick District Cycle Forum.

The Cycle Forum meeting went ahead on the 6th June.  Key points were:-

We had invited Cllr. Bill Gifford as he was interested in the K2L scheme. Ther hasn’t been any funding for it as yet – it didn’t get anything from the LEP.  WCC are looking for possible funding sources.  They are working up to making a bid to the HS2 communities fund.  This is open for 11 years and allows bids every 6 months.

It was suggested that the route could be delivered piecemeal as lot of it seemed to be straightforward. WCC stated that it wasn’t that simple as there are land ownership issues in several places.  He said the predicted cost for the Leamington to Bericote Island was £1.8m.

Bill Gifford said there is £1m in the WDC Local Plan for Bus and Cycling improvements.

Warwick Racecourse

The Jockey Club is objecting to the cycle way in the racecourse, so the development of this scheme is currently stuck without agreement between them and WDC.

NCN41 “Missing Link”

We proposed the idea for using land adjacent the railway line to connect from the end of Ansell Way to Coventry Road.  WCC will enquire of NR if this possible (at the Cycleways meeting David Heathcote volunteered to approach his contacts within Network Rail to see if this can be done).

Peace Festival 17th/18th June.

We went through the display materials. Received the newsletter and the membership leaflet for printing.  The numbers to be printed were agreed.  A couple of amendments were proposed which we’ll make before printing.

Warwick Station Lifts  – will happen. It requires an extension to the building on the Warwick side into the car park.  The scheme manager will be visiting to listen to any concerns.

Tachbrook Park Drive – This was discussed.  It was concluded that a shared use route was better than nothing.  It could be a major through route from Heathcote to town/Sainsbury’s.

Cycle parking – we were meant to tell WCC where we thought more parking was needed.  We didn’t think this happened.  It was suggested that Warwick Street needs more.
