“Great news! One million more children now walk, scoot or cycle than in 2017-18 (Active Lives Children and Young People Survey, Sport England), enabling more young people to experience the mental, physical and social benefits of active travel.
National Active Travel Commissioner and Sport England Chair Chris Boardman said:
“It’s working! Today’s figures show 11.5% more children and young people are cycling, walking and scooting compared to five years ago. That’s 1million extra young people with transport independence and millions of extra self-propelled journeys and zero-carbon trips.
“They’re showing us how we can achieve the Government’s goal to get 3.5 million more people active by 2030. This is the next generation, building a green transport future and embedding health into their everyday lives.”
