Cycleways’ meeting 9th January 2019 at the Royal Pug

New Brochure

Much liked by all, suggested that we included some of our more recent achievements, and we should include our involvement on the Kenilworth Neighbourhood Plan.  Will produce a version 3 incorporating these up-dates, send it for circulation to all, if OK, then we order 400? We could decide on actual numbers when we meet for the Enscote Road survey 20th.

Social Media

A good discussion, offered to convene a meeting to draw up a plan for those interested in being Facebook contributors.

Peace Festival 16th/17th June

Following the recent NICE report on health and exercise through cycling, thought that health should be a clear item. Others, useful to get a new Google map of the Warwick District to enable visitors to put pins in where they see difficult road conditions.  Failing a Google map could Tony ask if WCC could provide one of the three towns. Also we thought it would be worth asking WCC if they had material on Active Travel, that could be displayed. Or even better, have a stand at the P/F.

Review of Cycle Routes in Warwick

We reviewed the presentation given to Cycleways 14th Nov by WCC Town Planner.

Overall with a 20 mph within the town, it looks good. Some extra points emerged:

  • The junction of Church St with Jury St needs to be defined
  • The road that the County Records office is located is poorly lit
  • The use of raised kerbs to mark the beginning or end of car parking sections in Jury/High Street are not good for cyclists when there are no parked cars.
  • One –Way streets, there should be a presumption of a contra-flow cycle lane, but marked.
  • The new Warwick Race Course addition to the NW cycle route is good, but it would be useful to have clarity on the possibility of a route to Warwick Parkway station via St Mary’s Land.
